Seminar Participation: Urban Labs for Climate Change Adaptation
On Friday, October 24, 2025, representatives of GreenEsteem, Katarzyna Fagiewicz and Lidia Poniży, participated in a seminar and training session titled “Principles of Creating and Operating an Urban Lab in the Field of Adaptation to Climate Change“
The event was held at the Department of Landscape Architecture at the SGGW / Warsaw University of Life Sciences.The GreenEsteem team was invited by the ProAdapt UrbanLab team, a project implemented within the international EU programme Driving Urban Transition, which focuses on developing and applying nature-based solutions.
During the seminar, experts from the Institute of Urban and Regional Development (IRMiR) and its Urban Innovation Laboratory, Bartosz Piziak, Bartłomiej Sroka, and Adam Chyliński, discussed:
🔸 the concept and operating principles of Urban Labs,
🔸 their organizational structures, and
🔸 examples of good practices from Poland and abroad.
Additionally, partners from related projects shared their experiences with Urban Labs, which are dedicated to implementing NbS in selected Polish cities.
▪️ Agata Cieszewska – Harnessing the transformative potential of nature-based solutions (NbS), as exemplified by Mińsk Mazowiecki in the Integrate NbS project (ProAdapt UrbanLab).
▪️ Barbara Sowińska-Świerkosz, Malwina Michalik-Śnieżek, Kamila Chojnacka – NbS transformational laboratories as examples of Urban Labs within the NatureScape project.
▪️ Katarzyna Fagiewicz and Lidia Poniży – Applying the UrbanLab method in the project “𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘒𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘝𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘚𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦-𝘉𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘚𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 – 𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘯𝘌𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘦𝘮.”
